But WHY?

Oh my sweet Grant... just like this picture shows.. the kid is always in deep thought. The questions I get these days never cease to amaze me. I find myself often getting frustrated at the ten million "BUT WHYS" I get everyday and some of the questions I have NO EARTHLY IDEA how to answer! All the while, I love this questions because it lets me know he's "thinking" and using his imagination! Here are some of the questions I've gotten this week.

1. "Mom how does Mickey Mouse take his clothes off?"
2. "Mom why are there clouds in the sky? Me: Well, they hold moisture and eventually it will rain" Grant: But why? Me: Because thats how God wanted it be G: But why did God want it that way Me: HE JUST DID! (I gave up!)
3. We were pulling in our neighbor.. G: "Are we in the jungle Mom" Me: "No we are in our neighborhood" G: "OH... well I was just teasing anyways"
4. "Mom, will sharks eat my eyeballs" Me: YES (thats all I knew to say)
5. "I like Little Caesars Pizza, do you like the Big Caesars?" Me: "Um.. well I've only had Little Caesars Grant, but yes I like it" Grant:"I think it tastes like chicken and so does my friend Noah"
6. "EWWW Why do fish poop in their tank, thats really gross"

These are just a few of the MANY questions I get everyday. I don't always know how to answer them and I try not to get frustrated after the 100th question of the day! I try not to let him see me giggle but I can't help it, He's such a funny kid and I love him so much!

Mr. Ray!

We have started our Zoo class again, thanks to Rachel and Uncle Sam. Last year Grant absolutely loved this class but more than anything, he loved "Mr. Ray", a black and white dotted sting ray! As soon as we got to the zoo he asked to see "Mr. Ray" but we told him he had to go to class first! I couldn't help but post the "Mr Ray" pictures first so you can see his amusement!
The class starts off with a book and then she brings out two animals for each child to pet. We've seen a possum, porcupine, hedgehog, and a baby owl!
While thats going on, Cole and I sit in the back and he eats a snack! Its hard to believe that last year during this class I was 8 months pregnant with him!
After seeing the animals, the kids do a craft about the animal they saw and then have a snack. Before class is dismissed they hold hands in a circle and sing "This is what we learned today".
Then of course, after class its down to see Mr. Ray!
Yep, even little Brother is a fan!

... and its time to go! :)

Under the weather

For the past couple of weeks the Madewell household has been "under the weather" and its NOT BEEN FUN. Two weeks ago Grant, out of nowhere, came down with croup. We went to the Dr. immediately and she put him on a steroid (that I hope and pray he is never on again, it caused some serious behavior issues and insomnia) and sd he should be better in 4 days but will probably have a cough for about two weeks. The fun part? To keep Cole from getting it "keep them separated"... UM ... YAH RIGHT.. we are talking about a very active 10 month old that puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. After almost two full cans of Lysol he escaped the croup but then came down with an upper respiratory infection, which she said could last a total of 14 days. FUN TIMES. I won't go in to the details of losing my marbles calling the Dr's office (I could do an entire post on that scenario) but lets just say that they left out some important info that could've caused me more restful nights. ANYWAYS....
We had to get creative... what could we do that would be somewhat entertaining and keep them away from other kids? Well... unfortunately there were many movies watched, as you can see here we had a big ol' Buzz Lightyear party! We also set up a tent in the den along with sleeping bags and had many campouts!
We played outside..
Cole took some driving lessons while big Bro went on a nature walk with Daddy...

We played patty-cake, read books... and had some seriously bad hair days

But our favorite thing was going to the park and finding the biggest mud puddles of all to jump in! Im not usually the kind of mom that lets her kid get nasty but we put on some boots and let him have at it!

Grant was so cute following his Daddy's every move!

Cole just watched and giggled but it was pitiful to see how bad he wanted to get out and play with them.

The funniest part of all... on our walk back to the car Grant sd "Daddy I need to get the water out of my boots", we looked at each other confused (we thought his boots were water proof), and sat him down and took off his shoes and POURED about 1/4 inch of water out of each boot. Grant just laughed and then decided he needed to ride in Cole's stroller to the top of the hill. I can't say that I blame him! When he got in the car he wanted to strip down to his underwear because his jeans and socks were SOAKED and it was somewhat chilly!
Im happy to report that we are finally on the mend. It was NOT FUN but I am so grateful that we had very small "bugs" and nothing serious. My hat is off to the Mothers who have sick babies year round. Every time I felt myself wanting to have a meltdown of my own because I was tired or aggravated I kept thinking "SERIOUSLY, it could be worse". Thank you Lord for healthy babies!

90!!!

HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY to the GREATEST MAN I'VE EVER KNOWN!
Today is my Grandpa's 90th Birthday but we celebrated last weekend at Tol and Kelly's house! It was such a nice birthday gathering and I couldn't think of anywhere I'd rather be!
The proud wife! :)

Of course no party would be complete without some rough housing, poor Uncle Tol! Nahh... thats payback for all the torturing he did to me!

Grandpa - I hope you had a wonderful birthday today, it was such a beautiful day and its fitting for such a beautiful person. I have never met anyone as thoughtful, loving and caring as you! I have NEVER in all of my 31 years heard a bad thing come out of your mouth about anyone or anything. I hope my boys turn out as kind hearted and gentled spirited as you! I love you with all my heart and soul, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
